Services We Provide

We are a general pediatrics practice with over 41 years of combined experience in pediatric medicine.  We see patients from the day they are discharged from the newborn nursery to their 19th birthday when they head off to college or go out into the work world.

The heart of our practice is wellness care and health supervision.  Many people think of wellness care primarily as immunizations.  And while we do provide and require all standard immunizations for patients in our practice, health supervision goes far beyond this minimal definition.  We continuously monitor your child’s development by screening for physical development, emotional and social development, and language.  Most of the developmental issues that arise in children relate to psychosocial and language concerns.  And the earlier we detect and treat these problems the easier they are to address and resolve.  We are continuously in contact with our referral sources from doctors to physical/occupational/speech therapy, to counseling and psychiatric care and can refer you to the best resources to help your child.

We also diagnose and treat a wide array of acute illnesses in children.  Very few acute illnesses in children require after-hours or weekend/holiday care and can be handled during regular hours.  By far most acute illnesses in children (and adults as well) are self-limited, meaning that there is no medical intervention that will shorten the duration of the illness.  It is important to tell the difference between these types of illnesses and the types of illness that do require or benefit from medical treatment.  Our training and experience shine in this area, especially when it comes to testing.  It is important to test for illnesses that are the most likely based on your child’s age, time of year, and presenting symptoms.  For example, it would be generally inappropriate to test for strep throat in your 6 month old infant with cough and runny nose.  We also would not order x-rays on children with normal lung examinations, exposing them to unnecessary radiation without benefit.  We appropriately order tests AFTER examining your child, not before.

In our practice, we treat many children with long term chronic conditions. We care for children with complex congenital heart disease, cancer, sickle cell disease, autoimmune diseases such as various forms of arthritis or type I diabetes, and many others.  With these conditions our primary role is to manage the services the patient receives from specialist doctors as well as wide arrays of other specialty services and rehabilitation services.
